Before leaving we had tried, as usual, a lot of information on how to get around Marrakech and we had also contacted various tour operators to move around the Medina and out of it safely and comfortably.
In the various forums we had read about the excellent and cheap public services of Marrakech and of course also taxis; we have chosen the latter to move on our journey.
We then reveal everything you need to know to get around the best taxi in Marrakech, rates and routes.
The advantages of moving by taxi in Marrakech
- Possibility to talk to a local quietly and learn about many small things about everyday life and Moroccan culture
- Speed in moving
- Possibility to leave Marrakech for excursions to different areas
Taxi in Marrakech
Marrakesh taxis are divided into petit Taxis and Grand Taxis:
Petit taxis cannot carry more than three people
Grand taxis are generally ideal minivans if you’re in a group
We had read that grand taxis are more expensive than petits but we can tell you that it depends a lot on the Taxi driver you will meet.
We were lucky enough to meet Mohamed El Khalifa.
All the secrets for getting around by taxi in Marrakech
You can easily find taxis in the central square ofthe Medina, the chaotic, crazy and colorful Jamaa-el-fna. Agree in advance with the taxi driver for the price of your route. You can also arrange for your return and for all the trips and excursions of your stay in Marrakech.
Our taxi driver and friend Mohamed asked us for 50 dinars to accompany us to the Majorelle gardens,it is about 5 euros, quite a reasonable amount.
Many Taxis, as we mentioned earlier, are also available for excursions: in our case the round trip to Marrakech-Essaiuora cost us about 120 euros, which divided by 4 people is a really ridiculous figure.
We advise you to bargain with a taxi driver also for transfer to and from Marrakech airport. The service offered by the Riads is often much more expensive than you can agree with the taxi.
Per farvi ben capire, abbiamo prenotato il servizio di transfer del Riad al nostro arrivo e ci è costato ben 25 euro, mentre al ritorno il Taxi ci ha chiesto solo 10 euro.
It’s not advertising and we don’t earn anything but we want to advise you on Mohamed’s company and availability.
Here you will find his contact in case you are in Marrakech; he will be a great guide, a good travel companion and will become a dear friend of yours!
