We continue our journey into themost hippie Ibiza, the unconventional, wild one, different from that of foam parties or the big parties-concert of international DJs… that’s why we can’t miss the hippie markets. We are vintage shoppers and great advocates of crafts, so we couldn’t miss the opportunity to visit the hippie markets of the island that are a real institution.
Let’s start with the most famous of the hippie markets, las Dalias, which since 1954 every Saturday is populated by curious, passionate, fashion addicted and of course artisans who propose unique and handmade pieces. We park the car in the large parking lot of Las Dalias paying 4 euros. We immediately immerse ourselves in a festive and colorful atmosphere, including fabrics, jewelry, paints, incense and fragrant essences.
There are plenty of smiling and bohemian vendors and craftsmen. There are so many desks, it seems impossible to decide what to buy. However, our attention is immediately captured by the beautiful watches of a salesman who has the air of being an old biker. We buy two beautiful ones but the choice was not easy. Our moustached salesman to thank us for preferting it gives us a miniature hippie van … it is the first of our beautiful souvenirs from the island.
We try a lot of bracelets and rings, we watch the beautiful colorful dream catchers move in the wind, touch delicate clothes in fresh linen and beautiful vintage leather boots.
It is impossible not to buy something, we decided that this is the right place to buy souvenirs for our loved ones: we want something that represents our island, something that is really born here and brings with it all the warmth and joy of Ibiza. Our attention is captured by beautiful hand-painted wooden squares. They are many and colorful, you are spoilt for choice! The artist is Laura,a cheerful and sunny Argentina girl with whom we immediately befriend. Laura is so sweet and outgoing that she seems to have always known her. His squares will come to Italy with us to embellish and fill the homes of the people we love with color.
In las Dalias there are not only unique objects but also fantastic projects that you cannot help but support like that of the tree boys. The girl who explains the project is very sweet and creates beautiful bags and bags with organic materials that are an invitation to be fashionable saving the planet. She is so sweet, the bags delicious and the project so valuable that you can not help but buy at least one piece.
For our mothers we choose instead solid perfumes guarded in elegant boxes, made by Aromystik. Each essence has properties and evokes particular moods. The sandal is beautiful, bewitching and intense … we take it!
Inside the hippie market in las Dalias there are various refreshment points where you can stop for an aperitif or to eat something. These are always fresh bohemian style kiosks, crowded and noisy.
We continue our walk by stopping at every single stall to buy something or even just to measure clothes, rings, headbands or see the process of creating some objects. In the internal market there is a man who creates leather trinkets, calls himself the last hippie and in fact has all the air. We stroll through colorful carpets and light towels and dig into the boxes of a counter that sells squares made from old posters and flyers of Ibiza’s most famous clubs.
Among the hippie markets of Ibiza, another must-see event is that of The Wednesday of Punta Arabin Es Canar. This market is another institution in Ibiza, it is very large and super crowded; there are a lot of performers, illustrators, cartoonists and musicians. At the entrance there is a gadget stand in thehippie market of Punta Arabi and also some nice girls to be photographed with clothes and wigs from the 70s. Here it is not difficult to get lost among the various benches, some in the sun and others in the shade. Many sellers and artisans are Italian and it is always nice to find yourself among compatriots, just as it is beautiful to find some artisans that we had met in Las Dalias, first of all Laura our beautiful Argentina of vintage carteles Ibiza. The river of people makes shopping harder still than walking and on top of that it’s very hot, luckily there are various dining options. In the evenings there are parties and hippie concerts to entertain guests of the island in search of a slightly different evening.
In both hippie markets we find book stands dedicated to the long Spanish hippie tradition: Lifestyle, cuisine and even the history of these markets that every summer attract enthusiasts and curious; a milestone for those like us who have decided to live Ibiza with a wild spirit and vintage, unconventional but chic.
What a dream come true if we could visit. Absolutely gorgeous everything. Lots of Peace and Love all around. So Hippie ?☮⚘☯️?
