We confess: we were almost terrified to stay fasting once in Amsterdam. We didn’t know much about typical Dutch cuisine and aside from the Stroopwafel<\/em><\/strong>, we didn’t know anything else. So you don’t find yourself as unprepared as we were, read this post and you’ll find what to eat in Amsterdam and where.
However, we have good news: we ended up eating really well in Amsterdam!<\/p>

Bitterballen<\/strong><\/p>

They are delicious Dutch fried patties that are usually eaten as an appetizer and in our opinion are perfect to accompany a nice beer with friends.
the meat inside is the frayed beef cooked in broth that is joined to a roux (yes like the one in b\u00e9chamel sauce).
Wrapped in a classic batter of eggs and flour and breadcrumbs, they are then fried.
They are generally served with mustard next to them.<\/p>

Hach\u00e9e<\/strong><\/p>

It is a traditional beef and onion stew to which plenty of butter, bay leaves and cloves are added. Never served alone, it comes with mashed potatoes and red cabbage.<\/p>

Where to eat in Amsterdam these 2 typical dishes?
We recommend The Pantry<\/a><\/span><\/strong>, a traditional Dutch restaurant that offers nice fixed price menus to taste everything.
For example, we chose the $29.50 menu which included:
Hachee
Tasting of Dutch Sausages
3 Ice creams (mousse+chocolate ice cream+zabaione)<\/p>

Maybe the name doesn’t ring a bell but…we’re talking about the typical Dutch cheese! It showcases dozens and dozens of storefronts around town where it’s displayed and you can even buy it in a “travel” size.
There are plenty of Henri Willig<\/a><\/span><\/strong> outlets, which, among other things, also has a small cheese museum right in the Floating Flower Market area.<\/p>

Stroopwafel<\/strong><\/p>

We mentioned them to you in the beginning, you can’t not know them! Among the things you should eat in Amsterdam, so they will be at the top of your list.
Stroopwafel literally are “syrup waffles”<\/em> and are typical Dutch cookies. It consists of two very thin wafers with a light layer of caramel syrup between them.<\/p>

You can eat them this way or hot, freshly made and stuffed as you like … yes even with Nutella!

Potatoes and chips<\/strong><\/p>

You can’t not eat Dutch potatoes in Amsterdam! Do you remember when, a few years ago, a real craze for Dutch Chips broke out in the world? Then try the originals.<\/p>

The best fries in town are the ones at Manneken Pis.<\/a><\/span><\/strong> The largest package, Obelix, costs only \u20ac 5.90 and is really great believe us.<\/p>

Want to taste something really unique? Try Jacketz’s<\/strong> stuffed potatoes then.
You can choose half a potato or a whole one and stuff it in various ways: there’s a veggie version, one with chili and even one with chicken. Plus you can add lots of extras like cheese and various sauces.<\/p>

Desserts and pancakes<\/strong><\/p>

Not only are they good but they are also beautiful, romantic and Instagrammable.<\/em> Sweets in Holland are easier to find than water bottles.
Typical or international desserts, masterfully prepared and always presented in the right way.
We recommend two places:<\/p>
